Gurkha Shaggy Impresses

Gurkha Estate Selection Shaggy Maduro Toro 6x50 Dominican Rep. $8.00

Construction: Very well made. Wrapper had a slight sheen, and was slightly veiny. Crown was well made. The interesting shaggy foot was neither a plus nor a minus to construction (see lighting below). A slight fault in wrapper near crown caused the cigar to unwrap a tiny bit whilst smoking, but was not a problem 4

Lighting: Cut neatly, though unwrapped a tiny bit. The shaggy end seemed to make it easier to light, which I liked. The cigar burned evenly for first half and developed a medium gray ash of about 1 inch. In the second half of the smoke, the cigar burned a little unevenly, and I finally burned away a bit of wrapper/binder once. After that it was fine. A good draw to this cigar, as well. 4

Flavor: Peppery flavors when first lit, followed by the addition of coffee and cocoa. As it burned it added leather hints. Never a trace of herbal flavors. I found this cigar quite enjoyable. 5

Comments: I stopped by a local cigar shop to see their wares, when a young customer recommended this cigar to me as his current favorite. I can see why- it was very good. When I have a few extra bucks for boutique cigars, I might buy a couple more for my humidor.
