Good, But Somewhat Disappointing Hoyo De Monterrey

Hoyo De Monterrey 6 3/4x48 Double Corona Honduras $4.40

Construction: Slightly veiny, but lovely wrapper with slight sheen that I like. One little flaw, or hole, in wrapper probably should have made this a Segundo, but it was otherwise fine. Good tightness in the wrap, and mild but pleasant aroma under the nose. 4

Lighting: Lit well, burned evenly, developing dark grey ash of ¾ inch. Draw was perfect. Great to smoke. 5

Flavor: The cigar is listed as “Medium”, but I would be hard pressed to say it was anything other than “Mild”. Started, maintained, and finished with light leather and coffee flavors. Consistent, at least. Enjoyable, but I couldn’t help but wish the nice flavors were a little stronger. 4

Comments: A pleasant smoke when you are not focusing on the flavors, when you have your mind on something else (like work) and don’t want the distraction of a beautiful cigar that begs for more attention. But, there are less expensive cigars we have rated that will serve the same purpose.
